 ENAMELLING & ENAMELLING TOOLS

The Studio is currently stocking only 80 Mesh - UNLEADED Enamels by Thompson. Please remember that the colours shown below are representational, each monitor may show colours differently.

Your colours will also vary when fired.

Thompson Enamel Color Numbering System

All Thompson enamel products listed here are numbered into a practical coded numbering system which indicates enamel type and color.  The thousands number refers to enamel type, while the hundreds number refers to the color and the final two digits indicate how light or dark the color is.  An example is 1620 Daphne Blue.  The 1 indicates that it is an opaque color for copper, silver, gold or low carbon steel.  The 6 denotes a blue color while the last two digits, 20,  indicates that the color is on the light side, since 20 is less than 50, the midpoint.

1 =  Medium Temperature - Opaques - Suitable for Copper, Silver, Gold or Low Carbon Steel. These enamels have also been successfully used on Bronze and Copper Clay.

2 = Medium Temperature - Transparents - Suitable for Copper, Silver, Gold.

We strongly recommend, The Art of Enameling by Linda Darty and Enameling on Metal Clay by Pam East as excellent reference books, both are available in the Book section.

Enameling classes are also offered at the studio, check Workshops and Classes section - both Metal Clay and Techniques For Metal section.
